Open Position – VFX Artist

Position Duties

Passtech Games is looking for a VFX Artist to join its team. Initially, you will be working on Ravenswatch. Ravenswatch is a top-down 3D live-ops game with a distinctive, stylized artistic direction set in a dark fantasy universe.

You will work directly with the Art and Design teams for our game and the studio. Reporting to the Art Director, your role will consist of:

  • Designing visual effects for action games, in line with the artistic direction and game design
  • Creating, implementing, and maintaining the quality of VFX in the studio’s proprietary engine (OEngine)
  • Overseeing the studio’s VFX production by collaborating with all departments, from design to polish
  • Handling VFX for Ravenswatch post-launch content (integration of an existing pipeline, adaptation to existing tools)

The scale of our productions allows for easy dialogue between the different members of the studio: everyone’s opinions are invaluable! We value a healthy and inclusive working environment so that we can develop our games in the best possible conditions. This position is available at our offices in Charpennes (Villeurbanne, France), two metro stations from the Part Dieu train station.

Candidate Profile

  • 3+ years of experience in VFX, ideally with a completed production
  • You have a particular artistic sensibility for animation, graphic design, and color
  • You are proficient in VFX for real-time action: you know how to make the action shine while adapting to issues of timing, readability, and precision. You have a good game feel, particularly when it comes to signals and feedback
  • You are proficient in 2D design (drawing, mockups) to clearly demonstrate your intentions and anticipate the technical breakdown of your VFX
  • You are comfortable with stylized artistic directions
  • You produce your own textures (Photoshop or other image creation software) and are self-sufficient in 3D modeling (Blender)
  • You are meticulous and technically resourceful to ensure optimal rendering of your work in game situations; debugging, rendering, and shaders do not scare you
  • You have a creative, curious mind. You are proactive, have good iteration skills, and a desire to improve…
  • You have a strong interest in action/roguelike/indie games
  • You have a good understanding of English
